GovXShortDescription
On January 30th, 2012, the opening event marking 20 years of diplomatic relations between Israel and India, was held at the India Habitat Centre in Delhi. On stage were Diwan Saz, a unique Israeli ensemble that magically combines the spirit and the melody of Sufism with the liturgy and the ancient musical heritage of the Land of Israel. Sharing the stage with them was Qawali singer from Israel, Shye Ben-Tzur, who beautifully blends Hebrew lyrics with classical Sufi and Rajasthani music.
At the entrance to the concert hall, the crowd was enchanted by a display of breathtaking panoramic photographs of Israel by photographer Dana Friedlander, 4th generation of professional photographers who have been documenting Israel since 1926. She continues the family heritage but with a twist, 360 degrees photography.
This event was just an appetizer to a series of cultural events that are set to take place all over India this year, as part of the celebrations marking 20 years of diplomatic relations between Israel and India. In the coming month, the world renowned Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company will perform in Delhi and in Mumbai and the Arab-Israeli singer, Sameer Makhoul, will perform in Kolkata. Also, Israeli Puppeteer Yael Rasouli will participate in the coming Ishara International Puppet Festival in Delhi. In the month of March, the Israeli progressive metal band, Orphaned Land, will tour India and rock the crowds. Many more fantastic cultural treats from Israel will follow throughout 2012.
